The Ford Taurus SHO is a high performance version of the extremely popular Taurus. While it’s not a massively popular drag car, it can certainly pull down some pretty impressive competitors. Here are some prime examples of times when the Ford Taurus SHO was the car no one saw coming.
2013 Ford Taurus SHO vs Porsche Carrera
Okay, so the driver of the SHO got a little early jump off the line, but even with that considered, it shook the Carrera pretty quickly. Sure, a lot of the error with the Porsche isn’t so much the car but rather driver and traction issues (if you listen closely, you can hear either the clutch or tires slipping). Regardless, this race certainly didn’t end the way you’d expect.
Boss 302 vs Taurus SHO
Logic would tell us that Ford versus Ford, the Mustang would win, but not so fast — this SHO appears to have crossed first. The video cuts just short of either car crossing, and the Mustang reeled in a heck of a catch up, but the SHO owned the track down to the last 60 feet for sure!
2011 Camaro vs 2011 Taurus SHO
Well, this should upset plenty of people: a Ford Taurus SHO taking down a Camaro. There’s no reason to think the Camaro is a V8, but still, an iconic car like that getting taken down by an unassuming Taurus…not bad! Too bad the camera lost focus or we could have seen how the times shook out.
SHO Burns 5.0L Fox Body
This race was a good one to watch because the drivers both left the line at the same time and seemed to have both cars under control. There’s no way of telling what times the cars put down, but the Taurus SHO did end up winning this one, as indicated by the left hand lane light.
2011 Ford Taurus SHO vs SRT8 Charger
Just to make sure to round out the big three, this Taurus SHO takes a big bite out of an SRT8 Charger. The video isn’t the most steady, but it’s one of the only ones that gives times, so it’s worth a mention. The Taurus completed the 1/4 mile in 13.26 seconds, while the 6.1L equipped Charger trailed at 13.99 seconds.
Let these videos serve as a warning to anyone who might underestimate the SHO at the track. These cars are made to look disarming but are pretty fierce in the 1/4 mile. It might be worth picking one up if you want a good track car that can also tote the family around and get decent fuel economy as a commuter car!
